US Lacrosse announced the recipients of the 2009 US Lacrosse Chapter Grants. The US Lacrosse Chapter Grant Program provides chapters with additional funding to assist them in fulfilling their needs and ultimately growing the sport of lacrosse in their area. Grants are awarded based on the number of applications submitted and the proposed use of the grants by the applying chapter. This year, US Lacrosse awarded a combined total of $19,500 to 19 different chapters.
The following chapter grant winners will use their grant for the following programs:
Alaska – Will hold a Mid Night Sun Lacrosse Tournament. The event invites Native Alaskans as well as the public to watch lacrosse played by youth and high school players. The tournament’s aim is to grow lacrosse in Alaska as well as spread it into the Native Alaskan community.
Arizona – Awarded a chapter grant to expand a successful US Lacrosse physical education curriculum implementation program for elementary, middle and high schools. The chapter wants to offer curriculum manuals, lacrosse sticks and instructional clinics for PE teachers.
Central Texas – Awarded chapter grant to support the establishment of a new lacrosse program in Austin, Texas in the Austin Independent School District (AISD). The chapter would like to start a lacrosse program in an under-served area of an inner-city school district in a state where lacrosse is not yet a sanctioned sport.
Connecticut- Will assist in the education of youth and high school coaches in Connecticut. The specific programs which they will use include: US Lacrosse Level 1 and Level 2 Coaching Education clinics, a PCA Double Goal clinic, the state convention and Super Juniors. This Chapter hopes to improve the level of lacrosse proficiency of the youth coaches in Connecticut.

Houston – This chapter was awarded two grants. The first grant which the chapter was awarded will be used to provide copies of US Lacrosse physical education curriculum guides for PE teachers attending the chapter’s PE teacher clinic. The goal is to increase the amount of young students (especially in the inner-city) exposed to lacrosse. The second grant will be used to stock the chapter’s Loaner Program with sticks for use in PE classes. This program loans sets of sticks to PE teachers whose schools do not have the funds to purchase equipment.
Idaho- This chapter also received two grants. The first grant will be used to help fund a state-wide lacrosse summit and annual meeting. The objective of the meeting is to update US Lacrosse members of the objectives and goals of the Idaho Chapter, receive input with regards to future goals and objectives and to provide 3-4 educational seminar opportunities for members to attend. The second grant that the chapter received will be used to assist in funding the chapter’s ambassador program which will help grow lacrosse in Idaho. The ambassador program selects outstanding student athletes who will travel to Idaho areas which have not yet been exposed to lacrosse, introduce the game to the area and help grow local programs.
Illinois- Awarded a grant to introduce a US Lacrosse physical education curriculum for two inner-city schools within the state. The main focus of the Illinois chapter mission is to bring lacrosse into inner-city areas of Illinois and this curriculum will work towards making that possible.
