2009 Compliance Deadlines: IRS 990 and e-postcard deadline is May 31, 2009
US Lacrosse is now making it easier for all chapters to adhere to compliance guidelines. Throughout 2009 we will request paperwork during appropriate timeframes. Based on deadlines imposed by the IRS we request the following as the first part of compliance for 2009:
Chapters who fall into the appropriate tax threshold must file a Form 990 with the IRS for 2008. If you are unsure of your tax threshold refer to the Chapter Operations Manual page 15 (link below). If you fall below the threshold you must file an e-postcard 990-N (only if you have not filed a postcard in the past 12 months).
Filing Deadlines: 1. The deadline to file, unless you request an extension is May 15, 2009. Therefore, US Lacrosse should have a copy of your return or the extension by May 31.
2. If you file for an extension your return is due on August 15. Therefore, US Lacrosse should have a copy of your return or the extension by August 31.
3. If a 2nd extension is filed, the return is due no later than November 15. Therefore, US Lacrosse should have a copy by November 30 with no additional extensions available.
Should you have any questions at all about filing your 2008 990 Return with the IRS please contact Erin for assistance esturgis@uslacrosse.org. We have Chapters Advisory Council folks waiting to help you.
Additionally: The Chapter Relations Department sent an email to all chapter presidents with the chapters federal tax identification number, address and contact information that we currently has on file. It will be necessary to let us know the appropriate updates for this information according to what you have on file with the IRS. If you do not know what you have on file with the IRS then you will have to contact them directly at www.irs.gov or call (800) 829-4933 and when they provide a prompt select "EIN". To implement a change of address with the IRS for your chapter go to www.irs.gov and in the search engine type 8822. You will need to complete section 2 and mail to the IRS directly. If we do not have accurate information the chapters non-profit status under US Lacrosse could be at risk.
